Irish Fuel Trend

Is it worth filling up today, or waiting? Daily direction call for petrol and diesel with a confidence score, adjusted per Irish county.

Problem

One question, every morning: is it worth filling up today, or is it worth waiting? Free, no login, no ads.

Role

Solo.

How it works

FastAPI backend in backend/app/main.py with modules for data_sources (EU Weekly Oil Bulletin, FuelWatch.ie crowd-sourced pump reports, ECB EUR/USD, Yahoo Finance Brent crude via yfinance), db.py and SQLAlchemy 2, models.py, prediction, routes, and scheduler.py (APScheduler for the daily refresh).

A small statistical model built on scikit-learn and statsmodels combines Brent crude, EUR/USD, and four weeks of Irish pump prices into a three-week directional forecast plus a confidence score. That national forecast then gets shifted per-county using the current crowd-reported gap, since Donegal doesn't move the same way as Cork.

ingest.py pulls the sources; export_static.py produces the static assets shipped to GitHub Pages. The frontend is a vanilla PWA (index.html, county.html, app.js, manifest.webmanifest) with a service worker for offline use.

Result

Live at raghibhaque.github.io/Irish-Fuel-Trend/. README claims the model calls direction correctly about three weeks out of four across the last year of data, across all 26 Irish counties.
